FailCast Issue 019 - "Mayan Doomsday Preset Fanfare"
Friday 21st December 2012

This is a joint mix by Fail HDJ (London) and @pher (NYC)

@pher: "What is the opposite of a relaxation tape? In our last instalment we aimed to let the plodding soundscapes soothe our souls, and created an auditory canoe to slowly drift down the river of gentle sound; to listlessly move in and out. Music that was engaging if you wanted it, yet at the same time far from the foreground, seeping into the corners and crevices. This time around, the goal was to create a more challenging journey through some of the more experimental corridors of this noisy world we live in. I wanted to highlight some older electro-acoustic projects, and put them alongside some contemporary pieces that have managed to impress as well. All pieces involved, spanning the last 60-70 years, push an agenda of creative experimentation that is seemingly more and more rare as time goes on."

FailHDJ: "I think my erstwhile colleague went off on a bit of a tangent there with his intentions. Me? I just wanna inflict pain...."

What is podcasting ?

FailCast is the Fail monthly podcast. It's basically a pre-recorded mix that is available in the MP3 format. A new mix should be published once a month, but in reality happens when I get the time!

Podcasting lets you automatically receive the latest episode as soon as it's available. You need to 'subscribe' to receive a podcast, rather like you might subscribe to a magazine and get it delivered each week. The podcast's are free and you can 'unsubscribe' at any time.

In order to sign up for a podcast you need a piece of podcast software which is usually available free of charge. This software can check for new episodes and automatically download them for you.

The most popular podcasting programs is Apple iTunes and the way you add FailCast to iTunes (Version 11) is:
  • Open iTunes, make sure your Internet connection is working.
  • Select 'File' from the menu bar
  • Select 'Subscribe to Podcast...'
  • In the window type in http://www.failme.net/failcast/index.xml and click OK
  • That's it! You're subscribed. The latest episode will start to download and soon you'll be able to hear the podcast.
