Barker & Baumecker: Transsektoral LP (Ostgut Ton) A German and an Englishman went into a studio….No, not the beginning of a bad joke but the premise behind the partnership that is (Andy) Barker and (Andreas) Baumecker. Whilst the album title suggests bad gothic techno, this is actually the most fun you'll have with dance music all year.

I'd be lying if I said there weren't any fillers, but thats a back-handed way of saying the strong tracks really do stand out. The opening salvo of 'Silo' is just bass fierceness with a melody throttled through the rave vortex. 'Buttcracker' is manly sweat emission but managing to stay on the right side of propulsiveness without lapsing into annoying jackhammer territory.

The surprising moments appear when they start flirting with the distinct sounds of UK Garage. Namely 'Schlang Bang' and 'No Body'; the former warps a bassline out of shape and the latter sounds like something Burial would come up if he ever lightened up.
